The British Airways Executive Club was launched in 1985. The club has more than seven million members worldwide and is free to join.
The programme rewards members when they fly with British Airways, Iberia and oneworld partner airlines, enabling them to collect Avios for every mile they fly – with at least 125 Avios collected per one-way flight. Avios can also be collected through a wide range of travel partners, when booking international hotel chains stays, holidays and car rental.
All customers enrol as Blue Executive Club members and move to Bronze, Silver and Gold membership, depending on the number of flights taken and rewards collected. The benefits can be found here.
Avios is the global reward currency for the British Airways Executive Club, the Iberia Plus frequent flyer programme, and Aer Lingus’ frequent flyer club from next Spring – as well as the Meridiana Club and the Avios Travel Rewards Programme in the UK and South Africa.
Members collect Avios when flying with British Airways or any of the airline's oneworld partners. Avios can be spent on British Airways flights or those of its partners, such as Qantas, Cathay Pacific, Qatar and JAL. Avios can also be used to pay for cabin upgrades, hotels, car hire and experiences.
Customers are able to book long-haul Avios reward seats 355 days in advance and short-haul Avios redemption seats 11 months in advance.
Reward seats are extremely popular with customers and millions are offered every year.
A fully flexible return flight to Europe can be purchased for between 8,000 and 20,000 Avios and a flat fee of £35 (Euro Traveller) or £50 (Club Europe).
As well as purchasing reward seats outright, customers can also use their Avios to save money on all short-haul flights.
Customers can also collect Avios through a number of partner organisations, including Tesco, Avis, American Express, Shell, Marriott, John Lewis.com, Apple Store, iTunes, Waterstones and Debenhams.
Avios collected with partners can be combined with those collected on British Airways flights.
