Redesigning an aircraft like the A380 is about much more than introducing new seats or changing the cabin interiors. To create a truly premium experience, everything customers see, touch and experience needs to work together.
As our customers’ needs evolve, our onboard product must evolve with them. The redesigned interiors gave us an exciting starting point, but our role was to think more broadly about the complete journey. That meant considering how the service, food and drink, bedding, amenities and smallest finishing touches could bring the new environment to life.
This is a complete transformation across all four cabins, with new or updated seats, refreshed interiors and upgraded onboard products. Crucially, it is not simply about one cabin. It is about raising the experience for every customer and creating greater comfort, quality and consistency throughout the aircraft.
Shaped by Customer Insight
Customer insight has been fundamental throughout. We have listened to feedback on our current proposition, spoken with loyal Club members and drawn on the invaluable experience of our cabin crew. We have also looked beyond aviation, benchmarking some of the world’s best hotels, restaurants and hospitality environments.
Customers’ expectations have changed since the A380 first entered service. Their reference points are now much broader, and they increasingly expect their experience in the air to reflect the quality, individuality and attention to detail they encounter in premium hotels, lounges and restaurants.
That is why amenities, bedding and textiles play such an important role. These elements might appear to be small details, but together they influence how a cabin looks, feels and functions. In First, the new sleep experience brings together a hotel-quality duvet, a bespoke woven day blanket, a supportive pillow, cushion and mattress, all designed to make rest on board feel more comfortable and considered.
Bringing British Craftsmanship On Board
The new amenities have been approached with the same attention to detail. Our partnership with British heritage house Swaine reconnects with its historic relationship with BOAC, while transforming the traditional travelling trunk into a practical and elegant amenity bag for today’s customer. Inside, a bespoke Wildsmith collection has been designed around the body’s natural rhythms, with products intended to support hydration, rest and renewal during the flight.
Creating a seamless experience has also meant working closely with colleagues across the airline. From early workshops with cabin teams and seat-comfort trials, to ground testing of new service flows and flight trials of equipment, every stage has benefited from a wide range of perspectives.
Sometimes, the smallest items generate the biggest conversations. Our new First teapot went through hundreds of iterations. It turns out everyone has an opinion about tea! But that process illustrates something important: colour, texture, balance and shape can all change how a product feels and how naturally it works for both customers and crew.

Redefining First Dining
The part I am most excited for customers to discover is our new approach to First dining. It brings together new service equipment, a refreshed culinary approach and specialist cabin crew training to create a more personal and flexible experience. New elements include separate food and drink menus, an amuse-bouche before dining and an Anytime Dining menu featuring a “From the Grill” concept.
Ultimately, I hope customers step off the redesigned A380 feeling that they have experienced a new era for British Airways. The aircraft remains every bit as iconic as when it first took to the skies, but the experience inside will feel more contemporary, thoughtful and distinctly British Airways. Most importantly, I hope customers feel genuinely looked after, because every decision has been made with their comfort and experience in mind.
